Muskingum River Lock and Dam No. 7, McConnelsville, OH

Grout Systems, Inc. was Subcontracted to secure the New Dam to the bedrock of the Muskingum River.

In total we installed 43- wide flange beams into bedrock for the abutment walls. Holes ranged from 36- 48 inches in diameter and up to 34’ deep (10’-19’ of over burden soil and 10’-15’ of rock socket).  Wide flange beams were set and extended up into the abutments concrete pour.

Water infiltration was encountered in-between Training Walls which prevented a concrete pour below grade and an additional 15-Drilled Piers were installed to cut the water off allowing the remainder of the pour.

Curtain Grouting was implemented, water tested and grouted to solidify the Bedrock in one area.

Sixty-four 9-5/8” diameter Rock Anchors were installed from the top of the concrete dam to a depth of 64’ into underlying bedrock. Watertightness testing, placement of strands, grouting of holes, testing of anchors and waterproofing of all anchors was performed to secure the new dam to the rivers bedrock.
